The
Department of Building Energetics disposes equipment for the measurement
of heat and vapour conductivity, moisture, air and the effect of driving
rain on building components. They also have climatic chambers with guarded
and calibrated hot plates, mobile equipment for long-term monitoring,
IR cameras, computer facilities, demonstration rooms and a hemisphere
type artificial sky of six metre diameter, suitable for investigating
models up to 0.7m.
The Department is involved in long-term monitoring comparing different
heating control systems, typical and solar houses, blocks of flats before
and after their energy conscious retrofit, as well as the investigation
of comfort in summer conditions in light weight houses.
The artificial sky is able to ensure luminance distribution according
to IEC cloudy sky, foggy sky and a clear sky. It facilitates the investigation
of the strategy of artificial lighting control as a function of daylight
character.
The Department has developed the national standards on building energy
requirements, fabric protection and heating load calculation, including
the statistical evaluation of the related climatic database and development
and distribution of simplified software tools.
Currently energy conscious retrofit and fabric protection is a substantial
element of the Departments work.
