The Laboratory of Energy Resources deals with the research on following; renewable energy, combined energy supply system, energy efficiency and energy saving problems.

Theoretical and methodological investigations in the field of energy conservation in building and industry sectors have been carried out. The FRES model was used for these investigations. The FRES model allows possibilities of optimising heat consumption in buildings and of evaluating the minimum costs.

The Laboratory specialists were also involved in the THERMIE programme training course ‘’Solar Water Heating’’. This project was successfully realised in co-operation with the scientists and specialists from Austria, Germany and Finland. The laboratory has already started production equipment for renewable energy utilisation in the Institute’s technical base.

Theoretical and methodological investigations on Latvian fuel and energy balance have been prepared for the Latvian Ministry of Economics. The main results of this work are to be found in the Executive Summaries ‘’Energy in Latvia - 1994, 1995’’, the database of the MARKAL model. An analysis of the Latvian Energy Sector for the energy efficiency study SCORE - Supporting the Co-operative Organisation of Rational Energy-use programme for Latvia was undertaken in co-operation with NOVEM, the Netherlands Energy Efficiency organisation.
